The Sisters of Fate

The Sisters of Fate are Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. In some versions of Greek Myths, they are the daughters of Nyx. They were also named “Moirai”. They were in charge of the destinies of all beings. Their symbols are thread, doves, a spindle, and scissors. Nobody can tell the Fates to change their destiny or others, some variations show Zeus having authority over them.

Clotho spins the “thread” of human fate, Lachesis measures the thread, and Atropos cuts the thread. Lachesis is in charge of determining how long a being’s life span would be. Atropos cuts the thread, representing death.

The Fates were deceived once, and it was by Apollo (The god of the sun). He got the Fates drunk and persuaded them to spare Admetus’ life, although Admetus still died in the end.

They share one tooth and eye, which they take turns sharing. They have been visited by many hero’s, seeking to change the fate of themselves or others; such as Persus and Hercules. The Fate’s symbols are thread, the staff, the scroll, the spindle, and the Book of Fate.
