Pandora was the first mortal woman who was created by Hephaestus, the god of fire. He invested a lot of time in her growth and development, he was persistent on making her extraordinary. Aphrodite gifted her the capacity for deep emotion. Hermes gave her the gift of understanding language. Athena gave her the gift of attention to detail. Hermes gave her the name “Pandora”. Zeus gave her the gift of curiosity, as well as a heavy box that was tightly shut. Zeus told Pandora that its contents were not for her mortal eyes and warned her to never open the box.

As she grew she fell in love with Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus: The Fire Thief. He was in charge of designing the earth. Epimetheus gave different animals various gifts: courage, swiftness, strength, wings, claws… Epimetheus was attracted to Pandora’s liveliness. She was described as easily distracted and impatient because of how curious she was. She frequently thought about the box that she was given by Zeus. She wondered why Zeus gave it to her in the first place. She was convinced that she heard whispering voices and rattling of what was inside. What was inside was beckoning to be released and Pandora was obsessed. She was uncontrollably drawn to the box. The box echoed her name, the voices growing louder and louder. One day, she gave in. She stared at the box, trying to convince herself that one look was all she needed to stop her obsession. She cracked the box open a tiny bit, but the box burst open. Zeus had hid all of the forces of evil and suffering that he had created inside the box. Monstrous creatures and villainous sounds rushed out in a gust of smoke. Pandora eagerly tried to put them back in the box, but this would not work. The monster’s escaped and ventured into the outside world, they were uncontrollable. Pandora weeped at the destruction she had created. A new sound emerged from the box, a complete opposite of the evil screeches of the forces. She opened the lid once more and a beam of light emerged and fluttered away. Her pain was eased.

These evil forces released gout, rheumatism, colic of the body, envy, spite, and revenge. But was released after that eased Pandora’s pain, was hope. To this day, Pandora is sited as the cause of diseases being created in the world.
